Wiltshire procurement and fulfilment company joins list of region‘s most innovative enterprises
The UK‘s leading independent supplier of equipment to the education, care and early years sectors has been recognised as one of the region‘s most innovative and successful companies.
Wiltshire-based The Consortium has received the coveted Beacon Status award in recognition of its outstanding business achievements, significant growth and development of new markets.
With more than 30 years experience, The Consortium has a range of over 30,000 products ranging from stationery, furniture, office and business equipment to janitorial and curricular products for all types of schools and colleges.
Supported by the South West Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) Beacon status is an award given to those companies who can demonstrate “outstanding achievement across a range of criteria, including significant improvements in productivity and performance, profitability, work culture and innovation”.
It means The Consortium joins a roll-call of exemplar and “household name” South West businesses including Bristol International Airport, Aardman Productions, who make the Wallace and Gromit films, and Rick Stein‘s Seafood Restaurant in Cornwall.
As part of the criteria for joining the select group of companies who have achieved Beacon status The Consortium had to demonstrate it had achieved significant growth of at least 30 per cent in the last three years.
It also had to prove it had proactively managed a significant positive culture within the business and was actively planning and developing its business for the future.
Melanie Teal, Chief Executive of The Consortium, said: “This is wonderful news for the company and demonstrates our commitment to showing the rest of the UK that the South West means business.
“Our biggest asset is our workforce and part of the criteria for receiving Beacon Status was to show that we proactively encourage and foster a positive culture of achievement within the business.”
Sue Baker, Director of Beacon South West, said: “Beacon South West is a unique environment which brings together companies from a diverse range of industries and with a proven track record of success to promote good work practice, share ideas and exchange experience.
“I‘m delighted that The Consortium has joined our portfolio of Beacon companies who other businesses can look to for leadership and examples of significant business performance.”
Ends 29th September 2008
