Company directors, and their professional advisers, are invited to join Jordans for a breakfast seminar in Birmingham in July to unravel a mass of new regulations contained in the new Companies Act.
The largest piece of legislation ever to be presented in Parliament, the Companies Act contains a raft of new measures, taking effect between January 2007 and October 2009.
Jordans, the UK‘s biggest providers of business services and information to companies and their professional advisers, is hosting a breakfast briefing at the City Inn on 9th July for company directors, secretaries, lawyers, accountants and business advisors. The breakfast will be followed by practical sessions from experienced speakers, including a representative from Companies House.
According to Janis Law, Jordan‘s Group Chief Solicitor: “With such a vast range of measures, the new Companies Act is the first overhaul of business law for two decades, and contains many measures that will demand action by every company as well as their professional advisers.
“For example, from the 6th April the named role of Company Secretary became optional. In a recent survey carried out by Jordans more than a third (36 per cent) of respondents saw advantages in no longer having to have a Company Secretary.
“The danger this highlights is that more companies may fall into default with important filing obligations if there is no Company Secretary to deal with them. From now on directors will be responsible for keeping registers, filing annual returns, approving and filing accounts.”
