RICS South West event will also study property impact of bats, tax, asbestos, mundic, and red tape!
Chartered surveyors in Cornwall will spend a day in Penryn to meet the Prime Minister‘s adviser on affordable housing, and also learn how property is being affected by bats, asbestos, mundic, new taxes, and new regulations.
The day-long training seminar on 10th April, organised by the Cornwall Local Association of RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors), will be staged at Penryn‘s Tremough campus of University College, Falmouth.
Keynote speaker will be Matthew Taylor, the Liberal Democrat MP for Truro and St Austell, whom Gordon Brown has asked to lead a review on how land use and planning can better support rural business and deliver affordable housing. He is expected to report to the Housing Minister and Environment Secretary in July.
Other speakers for this training day will include Jane Squirrel of Natural England, explaining how bats can now have an impact on development projects and planning applications.
A briefing on asbestos regulations will be provided by Ian Hewer of Shield Environmental, while an update on mundic issues will be presented by Paul Taylor FRICS. Mundic is a form of “structural disease”, almost unique to older Cornish buildings.
Pip Horsley, from the Land Registry, will provide Cornish surveyors with an insight into the national agency‘s plans, including requirements for records and pre-registration of properties.
Specialist lawyer, Jim Gorrod of South West solicitors, Foot Anstey, will advise the Cornish surveyors on acting as an expert witness and handling party wall disputes.
Latest changes in property related taxes will be outlined be Peter Crane, of Peter Crane & Co Limited.
According to Matthew McKaig, RICS Director for the West of England: “This event has already attracted a strong take-up from our members in Cornwall. The RICS Cornwall Local Association is one of the institution‘s most successful local associations, and has secured a national reputation for arranging high-quality professional training events”.
ENDS 9th April 2008
