More than 38,000 new companies formed each month
More EU businesses are forming their companies in the UK
Almost half a million new companies (456,320) have been formed in Britain during the past year, at an average of more than 38,000 per month.
This is the finding of Jordans – the country‘s largest independent specialist in company formations, business information, and corporate services.
Despite increasing tax and regulatory pressures on UK businesses, Jordans has confirmed a sustained level of new company formations, and identified an increasing trend for businesses in some EU countries to form their new companies in the UK.
According to Paul Townsend, Director of Jordans‘ Corporate Services: “Over the past 12 months, new company formations have remained above an average of 38,000 per month.
“There was a near doubling of this figure for the months of February and March – driven by accountants advising sole trader clients to incorporate their business before the new tax year in April.
“Indeed, the most effective salesman for our company formation service is the Chancellor, with his announcements on tax changes encouraging more entrepreneurs to shift from being sole traders to forming a company”, said Mr Townsend.
Meanwhile, there has been a marked increase in the number of businesses in continental countries choosing the UK for the formation of new companies.
“We have seen a marked rise in the number of German businesses forming their companies in the UK, and this is now beginning to spread to other countries, including Italy”, said Mr Townsend.
“Those European companies have recognised the stability and certainty of the UK‘s business regime, as well as a less onerous and costly formula for company formations than some other EU countries”, he explained.
