The Consortium has signed up to Business in the Community‘s ‘Seeing is Believing‘ Scheme, and over the next year staff will be giving up to 480 days of voluntary work to the local community.
The award-winning national procurement and fulfilment company is based in Trowbridge and employs 240 people. Under the scheme, The Consortium is encouraging every member of staff to work with a local charity for two days, while still receiving their normal pay.
Melanie Teal, Chief Executive at The Consortium explains: “As a responsible employer The Consortium takes its commitment to the local community very seriously.
“Many of our employees live locally and we want to give something back in a real and tangible way to community projects.”
The Consortium, working with Business in the Community, has chosen three local charities to support. The Amber project works with disadvantaged and unemployed people aged 18-30 helping them develop the skills and confidence to find a direction in life, employment and permanent accommodation. Stepping Stones is a group for children with special needs and VINE for PAT is an organisation working with pregnant and abused teenagers.
Employees will be working on projects that make a real difference to the charities, redecorating and refurbishing rooms, teaching new skills to disadvantaged individuals, carrying out repairs and sharing their expertise.
The Consortium has a strong tradition of supporting charities having raised more than £54,000 over the last two years for Cancer Research UK.
“As well as making a positive contribution to our local community, we find time spent volunteering or fundraising delivers real benefits for the business,” adds Melanie Teal. “It helps team-building and the activities are fun and extremely rewarding.”
ENDS 30th July 2007
