PROPERTY CONSULTANTS GET ON THEIR BIKES TO MARK FIRM’S 250TH ANNIVERSARY

Charity bike ride forms part of nationwide celebration which aims to raise £250,000 this year

To mark the firm‘s 250th anniversary staff at the Bristol office of international property consultants King Sturge have taken part in a 150-mile charity bike ride.

The event was part of King Sturge‘s 1760 Charity Appeal which, it is hoped, will raise eventually £250,000 for good causes as part of the nationwide anniversary celebrations.

On Monday and Tuesday 22 members of staff cycled from the firm‘s Berkeley Square office through Somerset and Devon and down to their counterparts in Plymouth, forming part of a nationwide relay which sees King Sturge employees cycle 1,200 miles between the firm‘s network of 16 offices, beginning in Glasgow and finishing in London‘s West End.

Jeremy Richards, partner in charge at the firm‘s Bristol office, said: “Reaching the 250 years milestone is a tremendous achievement for King Sturge simply because there just aren‘t many businesses out there with such a rich heritage.

“However, while we are tremendously proud of our history, we also view ourselves as being a forward thinking business so, rather than sit back and reflect on what the firm has achieved in the last 250 years, we wanted to do something proactive which focuses on what is happening around us and how we can influence that.

“Therefore 2010 and the 1760 Charity Appeal gives us the perfect springboard to help others in society less fortunate than ourselves and to hopefully help others in the future.”

The firm‘s history can be traced to South West farmer John Player who, together with nephew Jacob Sturge built a successful business surveying land for the purpose of mapping, then a relatively crude science.

Years later King & Co, founded in 1920 by Herbert James King, became the leading industrial property firm in the 20th century, acting for developers, investors, owners and occupiers.

In 1992 the two forms merged to create King Sturge.

The target is to raise £250,000 nationwide for charities chosen by the King Sturge employees themselves, including The Children‘s Trust, which helps young people with disabilities and complex learning needs, and male cancer charity Orchid.
