Property consultants King Sturge enjoyed a night at the theatre as part of the firm‘s 250th anniversary celebrations.
Around 500 guests of King Sturge enjoyed a preview performance of “Juliet and her Romeo” at the Bristol Old Vic, with proceeds going towards the theatre‘s redevelopment appeal.
King Sturge was founded by a farmer in Stoke Gifford, Bristol in 1760 and has been instrumental in the development of the city since then. It has now evolved into a pan-European firm which employs over 1,700 people.
Jeremy Richards, partner in charge at King Sturge in Bristol, said: “The firm has been involved with key developments in the city including acquiring Temple Meads station for Brunel, acting for the Bristol Tramways and more recently, the development of Broadmead and Harbourside.
“As a firm, we aim to raise over £250,000 as part of our ‘1760 Charity Appeal‘ this year. Our partners and staff remain deeply embedded in the business, charitable, social and cultural life of the city and we are delighted to be able to help another great Bristol institution, the Old Vic, with its ongoing development.”
Bristol Old Vic chairman Dick Penny said: “It was a joy to host such a momentous celebration for a major business founded in Bristol. It is extraordinary that with the theatre opening in 1766, we share such a long history. We are very grateful to King Sturge for supporting our redevelopment appeal and look forward to both our organisations continuing to flourish in the future.”
The adaptation of “Romeo and Juliet” sees the traditional Shakespearean lovers cast as an elderly couple in love, with their children trying to keep them apart. It runs at the Old Vic until 24th April.
ENDS 17th March 2010
