GLOBAL EXAM SUCCESS FOR SOUTH WEST TRAINEE ACCOUNTANT

Bishop Fleming “school leaver” is ninth in the worldwide league

A South West trainee accountant has beaten all other regional candidates in the latest Advanced Stage exams towards qualification as a chartered accountant – and was positioned ninth among candidates throughout the world.
Nicola Bray, who joined the South West accountancy firm, Bishop Fleming, as a trainee in 2004 was placed ninth in the latest worldwide Advanced Stage Order of Merit by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).  She was also positioned top of all 32 exam candidates in the South West region.
Last summer, Nicola was awarded two prizes from the South Western Society of Chartered Accountants after scoring the highest marks in the region for her final Business Change and Business Reporting exams.

Nicola, aged 23, joined Bishop Fleming under the “Modern Apprenticeship” scheme after completing her ‘A Levels‘ at Camborne School in Cornwall. She qualified as an Accounting Technician AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) and then went on to do her Chartered Accountant‘s training ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) with the firm.

She now becomes a fully qualified chartered accountant.

She said: “Winning this international award means a lot to me as it recognises the hard work I have put into studying for these exams.  The ACA qualification is very highly regarded, and I am proud to have achieved it through a working route, rather than a university degree course”

Alison Oliver, training partner at Bishop Fleming, said:  “We are all very proud of Nicola.  Having come to us as a school leaver, she has excelled throughout her training become a Qualified Chartered Accountant, and is a real credit to the firm.

“She is also a superb role model for other ‘A Level‘ students with the ambition to become qualified accountants.  We are always on the lookout for such candidates in all our offices – Bristol, Exeter, Plymouth, Torquay, and Truro”, she added.
