BRISTOL SURGEON PIONEERS NEW LASER PLASTIC SURGERY TECHNIQUE

A Bristol-based plastic surgeon is one of only two in the country to be offering patients a revolutionary new laser skin treatment.

Simon Lee, Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Spire Bristol Hospital, the largest private hospital in the South West, says fractional CO2 laser resurfacing is the biggest advance in skin re-surfacing for over 30 years.

Mr Lee is the only plastic surgeon currently using the state-of-the-art fraxel:repair laser outside London‘s Harley Street - and has already successfully treated several patients with common skin complaints such as wrinkles, acne scars, sun spots and excess lax skin.

“Since January I have seen around 40 people, who have travelled to Bristol from as far away as Manchester and Ireland,” says Mr Lee.

“We have had some stunning results and it is extremely safe. What is different about this technology is that we are now able to ‘fractionate‘ the laser beam before it reaches the patient‘s skin, a similar effect you might imagine could be achieved by firing the beam through a sieve.

“An integrated computer scanner lays down an even treatment pattern, allowing thousands of tiny areas to be treated within only 1 sq cm. Crucially however, it leaves healthy areas in between and thereby almost eliminates the risk of skin scarring, and reduces the healing time to 48 hours.

“This procedure is ideal for people who want to improve their skin but who do not have the time for a lengthy healing process or for multiple treatments, both of which are often needed with traditional treatments.

“The fact that there is a quick healing time, a very smooth skin finish and probably no complications means this is set to become the new ‘Gold Standard‘ in this area of plastic surgery for many years to come.”
