As part of its drive to become a centre of excellence for physiotherapy Spire Bristol Hospital has made a key senior appointment at The Glen Hospital.
With more than 20 years “hands-on” clinical experience, Lorraine Warr was one of the first physiotherapists in the UK to reach the post of Consultant.
As well as appointing Mrs Warr, the hospital has relocated the entire physio department to brand new purpose-built facilities and invested heavily in high-tech equipment to help patients‘ rehabilitation.
“Physiotherapy is a major growth area in healthcare and from my recruitment to investing in new facilities and equipment, everything is geared towards consolidating the Glen‘s position as centre of excellence for physiotherapy. I am delighted to be part of this exciting development,” commented Mrs Warr.
After qualifying as a physio in 1987 Lorraine worked in the NHS reaching the highest possible clinical post when she was appointed as the first Consultant Physiotherapist in Wales by Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust in 2005.
“At that time, the post of consultant physio was a fairly new one and as well as being the first in Wales, I was also one of the first in the whole of the UK,” she said.
“Part of being a consultant meant I was increasingly able to shape and develop new services as well as help staff to realise their full potential, which I really enjoyed.
“My role at Spire Bristol as physiotherapy manager is a hugely exciting. While I still get a chance to meet patients and advise on their recovery, my main focus is on developing services, ensuring that they meet the very highest clinical standards, while giving the physiotherapy staff at the hospital the opportunity to grow and consolidate their areas of specialist expertise.”
ENDS 22nd September 2009
