Don Urquhart tasked with overseeing company-wide CSR programme
The UK‘s leading independent provider of property maintenance services, Integral, has appointed Don Urquhart as its Director of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Mr Urquhart, who is already Integral‘s Director of Health, Safety and Environment, said he was relishing his new role which encompasses everything from ethical buying through to providing work opportunities for young people and reducing energy consumption.
“We‘ve just signed-off our first-ever CSR policy document which states how we intend to put CSR into the core of what we do as a business,” he said.
“This is a serious commitment by Integral and sends the message that the company is ready to engage with individuals, communities and other businesses as well as react to our own responsibilities to the environment and wider community.”
He added: “It‘s a very exciting time for the company and I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to co-ordinate this wide-ranging programme.”
Integral‘s CSR commitments include:
• Behaving fairly and responsibly
• Contributing to economic development while improving the quality of life for staff and communities
• Reducing its overall carbon footprint and reducing or reusing as much of our own waste as possible
• Helping clients to use cleaner technologies to minimise environmental impact
• Developing, motivating and rewarding its own workforce.
“This is a serious company-wide endeavour and we are certainly not just jumping on the CSR-bandwagon for the sake of it,” continued Mr Urquhart. “Integral is a well-run and profitable business, despite the recession, and anything we do in terms of CSR is only carried out when there is a business case for doing so.”
He added that Integral had many positive CSR projects in the pipeline, including apprenticeship schemes for young people in deprived areas and ongoing support for the Tools With A Mission charity.
And last year, to meet growing demand, Integral launched an Energy Division to offer clients and new prospects support in reducing their energy consumption and carbon footprints.
ENDS 15th September 2009
