SOUTH WEST FAMILY LAW EXPERT APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF INFLUENTIAL INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE

Clarke Willmott lawyer is first in South West to chair Resolution‘s International Committee

A family-law expert in Taunton is the first-ever lawyer in the South West  to chair a high-profile committee that advises on changes to the international family justice system.

Daniel Eames, based at national law firm Clarke Willmott‘s South West regional office in Taunton, has been appointed chairman of the International Committee of Resolution, an organisation which follows Code of Practice that promotes a non-confrontational approach to family problems. Its members encourage solutions that consider the needs of the whole family - and in particular the best interests of children.

With over 6,000 members, Resolution is one of the biggest groups of lawyers outside the Law Society with different committees for the various aspects of family law, such as children and co-habitation law.

As Chairman of the International Committee, Mr Eames will lead a team of experts to advise and inform Resolution‘s national membership on all new international developments.

His Committee is also regularly consulted by the UK Government and the European Commission to help shape new legislation.

“In the past, lawyers working in international family law have tended to be based in London,” said Mr Eames. “However, this is no longer the case and international marriages are not the preserve of the rich and famous living around the capital.”

Clarke Willmott‘s South West regional office is the firm‘s centre of excellence for private client services, with a team that includes nationally recognised specialists in a range of expertise, including wealth management and inheritance tax planning. That same team recently won the Private Client and Family Team of the Year at the British Legal Awards.

Mr Eames, an accredited specialist in big money cases and the only accredited specialist in the South West on European and International Family Law, also writes regularly for specialist family law publications on international issues and has recently been asked to contribute to a leading publishers‘ on-line legal advice on international family law.

Also a contributor to the newly-published book: “International Aspects of Family Law”, Mr Eames added: “Increasingly people are finding their lives touched by international affairs, such as overseas asset ownership, foreign nationals living here, or UK nationals living abroad.

“The fact that I now chair Resolution‘s international committee for family law issues is further proof that London no longer has a monopoly of legal expertise.”
